CVT ring
Ring

On this example, you can see the differences between a measurement with and without the blocking ring between the both pulleys.

Vmax

If the variator is out of range, the, more or less, horizontal red rpm curve ends with an edge and starts to rise continuously like a manual gear. On the first file (light colors) the ring is inserted. On the second file (dark colors) the ring was removed.

Here you can see how the top speed is calculated. After you have selected the right load class (weight and sice of motorcycle and driver) a purple line appears. This line discribes the energy you need to accelerate. The blue line discribes the energy which is transmitted from the rearwheel to the ground (drum).

On the left side of the target, the bike has more energy than needed. Directely on the target the needed energy is the same than the energy which is transmitted to the ground. This speed is the velocity on the street (V1max 53,6 and V2max 61,6 km/h).

One important thing is that no one sits on the bike during the test run. It is onl allowed to sit on during the start, up to 30-50 % of the top speed for lowering the backlash. If you sit on the bike during the complete test run, the energy decreases because the higher roll drag.

If the velocity is calculated, T-Soft calculates with a standard 75 kg driver. If you sit on the bike during a complete test, you are one driver and T-Soft calculates with a driver too. So two drivers and less performance are the result.

The other important thing is, that not only the engine needs to be warm up, the CVT needs that too. The best way to warm up the comlete system is to accelerate from zero to 30 km/h for some times. If you don't do this, you will have different measurements like this example.

If you have a new scooter, you can do a lot of test drives and the curves are allways the same. If ther are differences from one measurement to the other, some parts (roller weights, i.e.) are worn out.

If the red rpm curve starts getting rough, the weights are worn out. If the driver has no problems, you can tell him that the weights must be canged in the next time (1000-3000 km). This customer will come back to his "prognosticator" :-)

On the left side you can see the rpm of the clutch engagement.
